Rotarians are members of Rotary clubs. Rotary clubs belong to Rotary International. To become a Rotarian, you must be invited to join a Rotary club by a member of that club.

A qualified candidate for Rotary club membership is an adult of good character and good business, professional, or community reputation. The candidate fits one of the following criteria:

  • Holds or has held an executive position with discretionary authority in any worthy and recognized business or profession
  • Serves or has served as a community leader
  • Is a Rotary Foundation alumna

Definition of Rotary

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Objective of Rotary

The object of Rotary is “to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” There are four areas by which this ideal of service is fostered:

  1. the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  2. high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  3. the application of the ideal of service in one’s personal, business, and community life;
  4. the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Rotary Avenues of Service to Community

The Avenues of Service refers to the four parts of the object of rotary:

  1. Club Service
  2. Vocational Service
  3. Community Service
  4. International Service

Rotary Guiding Principle:

The Four-Way Test:The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions of the things we think, say, or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
