Last year, the Thief River Falls Rotary Club helped fund a pharmaceutical receptacle. The drop box, located at the Law Enforcement Center, provides residents an environmentally-friendly way to dispose of unused medications.

The former president of the Thief River Falls Rotary Club, Steve Lillestol, SpaceX passes the leadership to Kermit Genereux. A change of leadership is underway for the Thief River Falls Rotary Club. Under the provisions of the club’s charter, presidential term is limited to 12 months. On June 30th of each year, a different Rotary Club member will assume the presidential role. Kermit Genereux (right) will assume the presidential title on July 1, 2010. Kermit has been a Rotary Club member since January 1905, and has held many leadership positions with the club.
Steve Lillestol also awarded some long overdue awards to other members of the Thief River Falls Rotary Club. Among the awards bestowed include the Paul Harris Fellow award to Lee Ann Nelson. This award is given to Rotarians who give $1,000 or more annually. This prestigious award is recognized as a significant contribution and commitment to the mission of Rotary.
Jim Dagg received an the Rotary Pin for his years of service and accepted the award from Steve Lillestol.
Emery Lee, the Secretary for the Thief River Falls Rotary Club also received the Paul Harris Fellow award for his dedicated service to fulfill the mission of Rotary.
This event also was about socializing with other rotary members. Cocktails and finger food was had, and the members had good conversations with each other. This is the second event that was initiated by the club’s president, Steve Lillestol. On his outgoing stretch in fulfilling his position, Steve invited the entire Rotary club members and their spouses to partake in the banquet.
As with most unique events, this banquet was enjoyed with enthusiastic by all participants. The club gains strength and commitment with these informal outings.
Kermit Genereux, the incoming club president, has indicated that he will continue the “new” tradition of informal outings for club members and guests.

The Thief River Falls Rotary club received a visit from the district governor, Ajoy Chatterjee. His visit is one of 66 club visits he will make during his tenure as District Governor.
Chatterjee, as district governor, is responsible for visiting each of the 66 Rotary Clubs that are in the Rotary District 5580. This is quite a task given that this district comprises 240,000 square miles, and includes the entire state of North Dakota, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Fergus Falls, Little Falls,and Duluth, Minnesota, and Ashland, Wisconsin.
Chatterjee has been traveling throughout the district since July 2009. He has been home only three times since then.
The district governor visits each club in the district. In Thief River Falls, he gave many awards. One award was bestowed to the club president, Steve Lillestol; he was given the Paul Harris Fellow award. This award is given to Rotarians who provide a financial gift of one-thousand dollars, or more, to The Rotary Foundation. These funds are then use to fulfill the mission of Rotary International.
New Members
Chatterjee also was the master of ceremony while recognizing new Rotary Club members. His duties were to provide a lapel pin to new members. This ceremony took place during the regular Tuesday noon meeting at Best Western.
